Biography
Dr. Kenneth Perlmutter is a San Rafael-based Family Systems Psychologist (PSY25112) with more than 30 years’ experience treating individuals and their families facing complex psychological disorders including addiction. He founded the Family Recovery Institute in 2008 to provide direct treatment services, clinical training, consultation and supervision. Freedom from Family Dysfunction: A Guide for Families Battling Addiction or Mental Illness, published in late 2019, reveals his theory and method in easy to understand and relatable terms. In the past he has designed and installed family treatment programs for national-level treatment centers, served as Clinical Director for the Mind Therapy Clinic in Corte Madera, and was a 14-year clinician and team lead for the Boyer House Foundation. He has served on the graduate faculty of San Francisco State University’s Counseling Dept., and as Associate Professor of Chemical Dependency Studies at Cal State University East Bay. Please note there are two psychologists in Northern California named Kenneth Perlmutter. This Dr. Perlmutter is based in San Rafael and specializes in individual and family psychotherapy.
